We live in a generation were most fathers are either absent, passive, or abusive.
Because of sin and our fallen condition, we see families that are broken, home relationships that are dysfunctional, and the next generation growing up confused in their identities, internally hurt, and broken.
Yet this is where God’s awesome grace comes in.
The good news tells us that in Christ alone, there can be a supernatural restoration and healing that can only be found through God’s perfect love. This perfect love gives identity, security, acceptance and power to live life with purpose and meaning!
There’s a scene in the movie “Courageous” where Mr. Hayes, a policeman who never had a father growing up, came up to a resolution to forgive his father. This was possible for He himself have experienced the perfect love and forgiveness of God even through his pastor who helped him know and follow Jesus.
“My name is Nathan Hayes and I’m your son. I’ve wasted so much time being angry with you and asking why you were never there for me. I’ve always felt like I’d needed to prove myself to you and that I was worth being loved. But I realized I have my heavenly Father who loves me even when my earthly father did not. He is more than enough. Because of him, I am forgiving you. He is your judge not me. I live with the hope that you gave Him your life before you died, so that one day I will finally meet you face to face.”
It’s truly impossible for Nathan to forgive and release the grudge he’s viagra been holding on to for almost all his life. But because of the Perfect Father’s love through Jesus, it became possible. He was a new man, ready to build a family founded on Christ and God’s ways, free from any hold of unforgiveness and bitterness.
We re-father the next generation by building strong relational lines with them, allowing our lives to be channels of the Father’s love towards them, and taking them in to our spiritual family, where the gospel is lived, shared, and experienced.
